Tired Eyes
61There could be a number of reasons why the eyes get tired; one reason can be the computer where our work is focus on. Our tasks have been dedicated with the use of the computer that by the end of the day it puts a toll on our eyes. Just imagine where the usual work goes up to eight hours and 99 percent of the time we face the computer. It has been the usual issue regarding eye strain and fatigue. When we stare at the computer for so long we seldom blink that is why part of the eye called the precorneal film or the tear film which is responsible for coating the eye fails to lubricate the eye and the rest of evaporates. Less lubrication equals stressed and tired eyes.
Computer usage subjects the eye to less blinking by 22 times to 7 per minute, that’s a major difference and when it reaches such stage it is called the office eye syndrome. This is the same syndrome that can afflict children while playing prolonged computer games.
One thing you must remember is to constantly refresh your eyes by taking a moment to look away from the computer screen. Looking away gives you the opportunity to blink and once you blink you give it a chance to lubricate itself. While looking away from the computer screen try to fixate your eye on something soothing. When the eye focuses on something that is near it usually stresses out the ciliary muscles because of its constant contraction resulting to accommodation this is where the eye focuses on the object close to you. It is therefore important to give your eye a break whenever you can even for a couple of minutes.
By taking a break you could relax your eye by trying to simulate eye exercises, you could start by looking side to side 6 times after that you can start by looking up and down.
The purpose of this simple exercise is to relax your eyes and not to overstress yourself. Another way to relax yourself is to mimic writing the number 8 with your nose. This method not only relaxes you but takes the pressure of your neck after hours of straining it in front of the computer. Making it a conscious effort to blink once in a while can help the eyes lubricate itself constantly. Or you can help your eyes relax by closing it for a few second and opening it again. The whole process can stimulate lubrication but to effectively get something out of it remember to close your eyes tightly. Finally constant dryness may be a sign that you need eye drops to help it relax and it is important to consult an eye doctor about this.
A very useful article Yoshihiro! Even if one knows it is good to remind again again that blinking is needed for eyes specially with working on computer one should be careful.
I noticed that you write good articles on ideas very useful for daily life. That is great.
